Academic Research & Writing

Academic research takes years. Really, it does. The style of writing required for post-gradate and professorial writing is highly precise. There is no room for generalization or inference that is not carefully defined and reinforced by data.

On the surface, there is not much in content marketing writing has in common with academic research reporting on the surface. When I dig a little deeper though, I can see how the discipline required taught me to careful about attribution of sources, the acknowledgement of collaboration and contribution, and to being certain that every word contributes to a better understanding. I do have to say that a lot of my knowledge translation work is rooted in academic writing and research.

This processes of academic work taught me that no concept is too complex to be expressed clearly and understood by most readers. I haven’t worked in academic research for a while, but this was one of the last three reports I wrote as part of a research team.
