When Industry Commentary is Needed

Professor Services helps job seekers. Their market is academics searching for teaching jobs and knowledge workers like applied researchers and scientists. They provide support services like CV creation, interview prep coaching and application submission services. The entire job search and recruitment industry is in a state of disruption. Tools are classifying work experience and character traits, not human beings. Applicant Tracking Systems (ATSs) sort resumes. Recruiter requests to submit automated video screener questions — without knowing who will watch them or when — has become usual practice. Being invited to take an assessment test that looks and feels a lot like the IQ tests from 4th grade is more common than being asked to do a quick screening interview.

Since Professor Services supports job seekers, they have to stay up-to-date on industry trends and they need to report how those trends affect their clients and potential clients. In this blog post I did for Professor Services, we explored the disruptions through expert interviews and feedback.
